Single-Block Wood Construction with Traditional Brass Frets

The Saraswati Veena is a central instrument in Carnatic music, and this Ekandam model is handcrafted from a single solid block of wood to ensure strength, balance, and tonal consistency. It features 24 precisely crafted brass frets, traditionally fixed onto the fretboard using wax, allowing accurate pitch placement and smooth playing response. The long fretboard, measuring approximately 2½ feet, provides comfortable spacing and an authentic classical feel.

Dual Resonator Design for Rich Sustain and Sound Projection

One end of the fretboard joins a large hollow wooden resonator on the right side, which amplifies sound and enhances sustain for clear, expressive notes. A smaller resonator on the left serves as a natural support stand, aiding proper positioning while playing. Together, these resonators create balanced projection, warmth, and depth, making this veena suitable for serious practice and classical performance.
